What We Believe

Abstract Background

We believe the Bible (the canonical books of the Old and New Testaments as a whole and in all their parts) to be the divinely inspired, revealed, and inerrant Word of God and joyfully submit to it as the only infallible authority in all matters of faith and life (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:19-21).

We believe the historic Lutheran Confessions to be true statements of the doctrine of the Word of God and regard them as normative for our theology. We believe that Ascension Lutheran Church exists for God's use in teaching His Law (showing our sin) and in proclaiming His Gospel (His offer of grace).

We are in fellowship with the American Association of Lutheran Churches (AALC), a confessional Lutheran body formed in 1987 by congregations seeking to uphold the authority of Scripture amid a larger merger. This partnership, solidified in 2007 with the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, reflects our shared commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The AALC believes the Holy Bible is the inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word of God, accepts the Lutheran Confessions as the true interpretation of Scripture, and emphasizes salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. Together, we stand firm in proclaiming this timeless truth to all nations

We believe in Jesus Christ and the Good News of forgiveness of sins through His atonement. We believe in the Holy Spirit as Comforter, Counselor, and Guide, working through the means of grace (the Word and Sacraments)-(John 14:25-26).

We believe that in confident reliance upon the Triune God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), we can be brought to a new life here and ultimately be received into His everlasting Kingdom.
