Outreach Evangelism Committee
This committee concerns itself with reaching out to
both members and non-members with the Gospel of
salvation through Jesus.
Regular activities sponsored through this committee
include:
- Evenings of Encouragement: special services
designed for our members to invite people who do not
know Jesus. The message of salvation is
preached, and often an altar call is issued.
Outreach Evangelism Committee members are available
to pray with those needing prayer at these events.
- Circle of Friends:
Circle of Friends is a ministry where we put feet to
Jesus command to “feed the hungry.” Circle of
Friends meets at Lincoln Park in Waterloo every
other Sunday and feeds a full meal to all those who
come. Many who attend Circle of Friends are
lonely, homeless, poor, and hungry. Not only
do they get a great meal, but they are ministered to
by those who serve, and they hear the Gospel through
the worship service following the meal.
Parish Education Committee
This committee, with the staff, provide educational
programs for the children of our church. They
review Sunday School materials, find Sunday School
teachers, assist with Vacation Bible School
programs, and administrate the Bible
Presentation program.
- Sunday School: Sunday School is for people
of all ages and is held year round at 9:45 a.m.
Children are currently using Cook curriculum, and we
have a special preschool program written for 3’s and
4’s by one of our members which keeps busy bodies
and hands moving while they learn. Adults have
various series of Sunday School options ranging from
parenting classes to the study of different faiths
or books of the Bible. Please contact any
staff member for current offerings.
- Vacation Bible School: held every summer
(usually in July) for children ages 4 through 3rd
grade. Our church is decorated up and kids
take an “adventure” of sorts through Bible stories.
The children are strongly encouraged to invite
friends who do not have a church home to this
experience.
- Camp VBS is a special program for students
in 4th-6th grade.
Usually held in June, this experience combines the
fun of Vacation Bible School crafts and games with
the deep Bible experiences of camp. It is 3
days and 2 nights, and a great success! For
more information on Camp VBS please contact Shanda
Knight.
- Children’s Choir: We believe that children
should worship with their families, and we provide
an opportunity for them to participate in worship
through Children’s choir. Children’s Choir
meets on Sundays at 9:45-10:00. We share our
music at both services, a few times every school
year. The Children’s Choir also shares a
Christmas program each year and an Easter
musical.
Deacons' Committee
This committee concerns itself with the proper
administration of altar and sacrament for the
atmosphere of worship services, and makes
recommendations and decisions regarding the
enhancements of worship experiences.
Stewardship & Finance Committee
This committee develops a stewardship concern, not
only for money but also for the stewardship of time
and talents of all members of the Ascension
congregation.
They establish our church budget and ensure
necessary funding is available to carry on the work
and ministry of the congregation, and its benevolent
ministries.
This committee prepares and organizes an annual
stewardship emphasis endeavor and continually
educates our members on Biblical stewardship.
Property Management Committee
This committee concerns itself with the well-being
of the church property. They ensure proper
maintenance of equipment and make necessary repairs
and improvements that enhance and enable the
ministries of Ascension to function properly.
Recently this committee blessed the Parish Education
Committee with 2 new Sunday school rooms – which are
already overflowing!
Fellowship & Activities Committee
This committee coordinates all church functions that
promote the Christian fellowship of believers.
They serve coffee and cookies between Sunday
services and several meals throughout the year.
This committee is comprised of many hearts and hands
who are very gifted in hospitality – our cooks are
the best in town and have a HUGE heart for the Lord!
Social Ministry Committee
This committee raises the awareness of community
needs and provides opportunities for our
congregation to be the “hands and feet” of Jesus as
we reach out to those in need.
Some of the many annual projects for this committee
include: Angel Tree, “Children of the Dump”, food
drives, supply drives for various local non-profit
organizations, meals-on-wheels, and others!
There seems to always be something going on – and it
does our hearts good to reach out to others by
meeting real needs.
Youth Ministry Committee
This committee helps coordinate and run events for
students in grades 7th thru 12th. They work hand in
hand with the Youth Director to develop fundraisers
that students participate in that will develop not
only relationships with the community and the
congregation but also allow the students to raise
support for annual trips. Such events include: the
Valentines Dinner (February), the Sweetheart Dinner
(Fall), Easter Breakfast, and many others. The
committee also helps in the monthly activities
provided for the students.
World Missions Committee
This committee raises the awareness of needs in the
world and encourages our congregation to support
missionaries both in the U.S. and abroad as they
share the love of Christ with those who have not yet
heard.
Women of LIFE Committee
LIFE stands for Lutherans in Fellowship and
Evangelism. The Women of LIFE or WOL
provide opportunities for women of our congregation
and those they bring as guests to grow in their walk
with the Lord through special events and Bible
study.
